Going down! 250, 200, 150 - do I hear 100?
Posted by: McQ on Tuesday, October 28, 2008

That 95% of working Americans who'll receive a tax cut is down from a ceiling of $250,000 to those making $200,000 or less.

It's at the :30 mark.

Joe Biden then takes about 35 seconds to lower that ceiling to $150,000.

Bait and switch? It's not like it has never been done before. And consider it this way - with the economic melt down, the Obama/Biden definition of "middle class" and "top 5%" is losing some worth, so they're adjusting their numbers.

The possibility that Biden got the numbers wrong in an interview is certainly one that can't be dismissed. But the number Obama put out there should never have survived editing if he didn't want that said. That is Obama's "closing argument" ad.

So take that as the new arbitrary number used to define that expanding 'top 5%'. Can $150,000 really be that far behind?

Did Obama just make a campaign ad for John McCain?

Unfortunately Obama paint himself nearly white, set his hair on fire and start singing thriller at all his engagements and would lose few if any votes.

He is setting up a future defense of "I told you what I was going to do, so don’t complain.".

The real kicker to this whole election, if McCain had gone after Obama’s marxist leanings and history 3 months ago, he would probably be in the lead.

It took a plumber to show McCain how to fight this election, but it was too late.

Obama’s stated position has always been a tax cut for people making less than 200,000, and a tax increase for people making over 250,000. It has always been part of his plan that people making between 200,000 and 250,000 would not see their taxes change.

That must have been in the fine print, because they sure loved quoting that $250,000.

gc, if you think that no one with income below $250K will see an increase in taxes under Obama, think again

Almost everyone will be paying more in taxes — including people who aren’t paying taxes right now. That’s because Obama will let Bush’s tax cuts expire, and many people went from paying some federal income tax to paying none at all under those tax cuts.

And Obama has said he’ll remove the cap on Social Security payroll tax....which means everyone making more than about $95K a year will see their taxes increase.

Obama’s stated position has always been a tax cut for people making less than 200,000, and a tax increase for people making over 250,000. It has always been part of his plan that people making between 200,000 and 250,000 would not see their taxes change.
Not only has that not been his stated position, below is his stated position. The only $200,000 you’ll see there is the differentiation he makes for a single person vs. a married couple.
o Repealing a portion of the Bush tax cuts for families over $250,000 while continuing to leave their tax rates at or below where they were in the 1990s:

o Ordinary Income: The top two income tax brackets would return to their 1990’s levels of 36% and 39.6%. All other tax brackets would remain as they are today. Obama would also restore the 1990’s levels for the personal exemption and itemized deduction phaseouts (known as PEP and Pease).

Obama would work with the Treasury Department to adjust the thresholds of these rates slightly to ensure that no married couple making less than $250,000 (or single making less than $200,000) was affected by these changes.

o Capital Gains: Families with incomes below $250,000 will continue to pay the capital gains rates that they pay today. For those in the top two income tax brackets – likewise adjusted to affect only families over $250,000 – Obama will create a new top capital gains rate of 20 percent. Obama’s 20% rate is equal is the lowest rate that existed in the 1990s and the rate that President Bush proposed in 2001. It is almost a third lower than the rate that President Reagan signed into law in 1986.vii

o Dividends: The top dividends rate for people making over $250,000 would be set at 20 percent. Dividends will not return to being taxed at ordinary income tax rates. Obama’s 20 percent rate on dividends will be 39 percent lower than the rate President Bush proposed in 2001, and would be lower than all but 5 of the last 92 years we have been taxing dividends.viii

o Estate Tax: The estate tax would be effectively repealed for 99.7 percent of estates. For the remaining 0.3% of estates over $7 million per couple, Obama will retain a rate of 45%. This policy would cut the number of estates covered by the tax by 84 percent relative to 2000.ix

o Average Tax Rates Below the 1990s: Overall, the top 1 percent of households – people with an average income of $1.6 million per year – would see their average federal income and payroll tax rate increase from 21 percent today to 24 percent, less than the 25 percent these households would have paid under the tax laws of the late 1990s.x

By the time Obamarx is done pulling the "[EXPENSIVE GOVT PROGRAM X] cost more than we anticipated" card, that line will be down to families pulling in about 47,500 per year

After today, I definitely need some help understanding how Obama is going to unite us all. I’ve grown perplexed recently seeing Senator Biden attack normal people like Joe the Plumber and divide the elites from the rest of us. Then there’s Senator Obama’s 250-200-150-100-? tax the holy heck out of you threshold that doesn’t seem very uniting.

But when I read tonight about the Obama supporters who maced a McCain office ( http://tinyurl.com/5p6ba4 ) after accusing them of stealing Obama signs (projection much?) and refusing to leave, I finally lost all hope in the Great One uniting this country. This is oppressive behavior, not Great Unifier "He Who Parts Political Waters" behavior.

Unless the definition of unite is unified coercion under totalitarian administration, I don’t see how the Great One has any capacity to unite. Have I possibly been mislead by a less-than-objective news media in my expectations of the Great One’s ability?

It is incredible. The Clown Obama has not even been elected yet - although some in the liberalmedia have already bestowed the title "President" on him - and already his Gang has begun lying through their teeth.

Just wait until next year, when the deficit hits $1 trillion, and ClownObama says that we have to "raise taxes more than I wanted to" to get that additional money. Taxes on people, as McCain says now, making only $42,000.

Of course, the MSM will report it as "President Obama has to do this, for the good of the country. After all, ClownObama promised to take public financing, and yet when he lied...oops, told a falsehood...and took private money anyway, the MSM pooh-poohed any criticism. Heck, even liberals are now saying, "What a great idea it was for Obama to take that money, because he is outspending the Republicans."

I smile when I think what their excuses will be when the Clown has to tax everyone but illegal aliens and the poor to pay for his bloated administration.

Anyone want to guess? We can almost see Keith "I Lost My Brain" Dimbulbermann using his "Worst Person in the World" to hit those who remember that Obama said he wouldn’t do it. "How could they say anything bad about a man who cares so much?" the Dimbulb will say. And the rest of the Clucking media will go right along and cover for the Clown’s smarmy buttocks.

What I want to see is interviews with the dolts who are voting for The Clown now who believe his tax pledge, but get the shaft when it turns out he is lying. I want to see those morons squeal.

We all already know if that if the Big Zero has to raise taxes on the lower income brackets, it will be George Bush’s fault. Even though being a Senator he could know the state of the economy as well as anyone could possibly know, he will still be ’shocked’ at the state of the economy when he finally takes office.

He could know today if he can deliver on his promises or not, but will feign ignorance when the time comes.

One thing American voters do fairly well is remove candidates who don’t stick to their promises. For all their respective faults, the last five presidents all stuck fairly closely to their campaign promises. Bush, for example, has been criticized almost exclusively for things that were not campaign issues (PATRIOT, Katrina, etc), the sole exception being the Iraq war which was a case of being criticized for not breaking his promise.

Obama may still get elected, but if he contradicts himself, he’ll be a one-term president.

With the memorable exception of Bush "Read My Lips" Sr., whose case demonstrates your point.

He’s started lying the moment the primaries ended!

He started out as a far leftist to appeal to the nutroots, and this is probably were his real views are.

As soon as he beat Clinton, he shifted his rhetoric to the center.

He maintained that rhetoric long enough for the media echo chamber to cement it as conventional wisdom. More and more, though, he’s been quietly sending signals to the left that he’s still their man. The code is just typical liberal doublespeak, such as "tax cut" for welfare, it’s not particularly complicated but it fools swing voters who don’t spend the time to parse it.

Check out CNN fact checker...

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/29/fact-check-obama-biden-creeping-down-on-who-gets-tax-relief/

Both candidates have taken words and misrepresented them. Obama/Biden have not changed their tax plan. However, this doesn’t mean that he can’t. I think all we have is their word. The fact is that most presidents have tried to live up to their word. If you believe Obama is lying, then you should think Obama will change the plan. However remember "belief" can be blinding. If you believe that the boogeyman is real, nothing I say will convince you otherwise.

Really?

So what we saw and heard in his 30 minute infomercial when he said "$200,000" instead of $250,000" wasn’t real or was instead something we "believe"?

Have another sip of kool-aid.

He said that there would be no tax increases for people making less than 250K and there would be tax cuts for people making less than 200K. That was how the figure was referenced in the infomercial. It is at the 4:57 minute mark. "As president this is what I will do: Cut taxes for every working family making less that 200 thousand dollars a year."
