Obama MUST bring Washington insiders into his administration if he is to accomplish anything. It would be a serious mistake to bring in his own cronies and outsider friends and try to "take on" Washington. In American politics and governance, you need people who understand the way the game is played. He seems to be surrounding himself with a pretty sharp team. I’d be very worried about his capacity to do anything if he wasn’t focused on finding talent who knows the lay of the land and the way the game is played. Meanwhile, I think the Republicans are slowly realizing that the America of 1994 no longer exists. This is a changed country. We’ve changed demographically. The Iraq syndrome means military action is now very distasteful and we’re learning it’s not effective anyway. Iran has essentially "won" in Iraq, and Afghanistan is in worse shape than anytime since 2001. The change is less about leadership change, really cultural change. http://scotterb.wordpress.com |

Obama MUST bring Washington insiders into his administration if he is to accomplish anything. Sure but at least bring in someone who isn’t a complete fcuk-up (sic)
I can see the future pretty easy if he hires this incompetent. |

Obama MUST bring Washington insiders into his administration if he is to accomplish anything. Hm. Reagan didn’t, and he managed quite well.
I’ll forgive him the Chief of Staff, since that job is specifically one to b@llbust congress into passing your bills...but all the others? It’s like a who’s who from the Clinton years. |

It’s here we’ll make our stand. |

So in order to get "change" Obama must "bring Washington insiders into his administration"
Yup.
And they had to burn the village in order to save it.
Well, its only Nov. 10th and we get the 1st example of Erb and his ilk twisting in knots (in this case with head up rear) to justify Ocarter |

hey baby, the change she’s a happening.President-elect Obama’s advisers are quietly crafting a proposal to ship dozens, if not hundreds, of imprisoned terrorism suspects to the United States to face criminal trials, a plan that would make good on his promise to close the Guantanamo Bay prison but could require creation of a controversial new system of justice.
During his campaign, Obama described Guantanamo as a "sad chapter in American history" and has said generally that the U.S. legal system is equipped to handle the detainees. But he has offered few details on what he planned to do once the facility is closed.
Under plans being put together in Obama’s camp, some detainees would be released and many others would be prosecuted in U.S. criminal courts. What could go wrong? |

I think Hillary will be named as As a justice. I don’t think Bill would be. I expect a latino or African American to get the other slot. I think Ginsberg and Souter will retire this year. Also I believe Congress will try to increase the size of the Supreme Court for “diversity sake” (AKA liberal power grab to put SCOTUS firmly on their side for a generation). |

Gorelick is a non-starter. One would hope Obama is smarter than that From the degree of Clintonista’s involved I would posit that he is not in a bubble of the proportion attributed to GWB.
So he may not know why this is a bad thing. |

Scott Erb - Obama MUST bring Washington insiders into his administration if he is to accomplish anything. It would be a serious mistake to bring in his own cronies and outsider friends and try to "take on" Washington.
While I think that it’s possible to bring in talented outsiders to "take on" Washinton, bringing in retreads is the easier path to take. I think that part of the problem with Sarah Palin was that she was CLEARLY an outsider; there was little or no history of even casual acquaintance between her and the DC press corps, so they felt that much more freedom to tear her apart. It MAY be that The Annointed One is playing to his other base - the press - in bringing in people that they already know, like, and support. "Oh, he named Gorelick? Cool: I had lunch with her a couple of weeks ago. She’ll do just fine."
Or it’s just that he realizes that he really doesn’t know what he’s doing, so he’s rehiring all the members of the last dem (spit) administration who already know quite well how DC works. Less time getting up to speed, more time screwing up the country.
Oh, and The Annointed One won’t be "taking on" Washington: that implies an adversarial relationship. To the contrary, he is in perfect accord with the big government, tax-and-spend, a-cabinet-department-for-everything crowd that already infests that town. |

Forget her role at Fannie Mae. Forget that she is a Clinton retread.
Remember that she aided Janet Reno in putting up the "wall" between Justice and the FBI which precluded any assistance in getting the 9/11 hijackers before they carried out the attack.
Gorelick stands as one of the most responsible for letting 9/11 occur. If Obama names her, it is clear that his agenda is headed back to the Clinton era, when al Qaeda metastasized while Clinton got his dick sucked in the White House.
This will let down our guard again, and they will hit us again. And it will make 9/11 look tame by comparison.
I swear, if al Qaeda hits during the reign of The Clown™, we need to go forward with the message that from 9/11, we were not hit because Bush took the fight to the terrorists. But we elected Howdy Doody as President, and once again we got hit.
No more p*ssyfooting, folks. If we get hit again under The Clown™, it is because we lowered our standards. And that only happens when Democrats are running the show. |

The cheerful attacks on any and every Obama move are going to look even more petty than they do today.
No one knew 9/11 was coming before 9/11, but we know now they are trying to make it happen again, so is this the time for distractions, or focus?

No one knew 9/11 was coming before 9/11, but we know now they are trying to make it happen again, so is this the time for distractions, or focus? The current Pres. has been trying to stop 9/11 v2.0 for the last 7 years, there’s always been a good possibility it could happen at any time, and you never felt bad about any "distractions" you tried to cause him now did you?
Stop acting like you give a sh*t about the country please. How do you behave when you know this is coming? How do I behave when I know it is coming? Easy: Remember the hoohah over the Pres. daily briefing that had everyone shrieking that he "knew" 9/11 was going to happen ahead of time and did nothing to stop it?
Now substitute Obama’s name for Bush.
Obama "failed to connect the dots!" And my favorite "Why do they hate us!"
And god help Obama if he doesn’t jump into action within seconds of learning something is happening. Then you can substitute Obama’s name for Bush’s name on the "My pet goat" stuff.
Same standards. Deal with it.

No one knew 9/11 was coming before 9/11 Maybe you should share that with nutroot’s hero Keith Olbermann. The Bush Administration did not try to get Osama bin Laden before 9/11.
The Bush Administration ignored all the evidence gathered by its predecessors.
The Bush Administration did not understand the Daily Briefing entitled "Bin Laden Determined To Strike in U.S." |

so is this the time for distractions, or focus? I remember when McCain wanted to eschew the debate so they could work on the financial crisis...Obama said that the Pres. should be able to do 2 things at once w/o getting distracted.
So there’s no excuse. I’m already getting my "Obama lied, people died" signs ready.

Just trying out this "shoe on the other foot" thing.
We don’t have a PDB that the public was not privy to this time, we have a direct threat.
And for my part, and you can look through the archives, I have always said that I believe that whoever was the next President will see a major attack either executed or attmepted during their first year in office.
The period between January 20 and December 2009 will be critical. Everyone will see it through their own prisms. If it is foiled, Democrats will credit the Obama administration, and Republicans will credit the security measures put in place by GWB.
If it is executed, Democrats will blame security measures already in place, and Republicans will blame Obama.
This is how AQ wants to drive the US agenda and keep the body politic on our heels.
Most likely the attack will follow one or more of the blueprints provided by people pointing out holes in our defenses that have not been well addressed. I suspect cargo planes as the weapon of choice, but there are many other ways.
The reality is that in a relative free country like the US, there is just no way to prevent a well planned, well executed attack except for prior intelligence that could allow us to head off the attack. The aparatus for obtaining that intelligent has to in place now, and the information gathered has to be interpreted correctly and acted on appropriately. There are a lot of potential misses in the process, and in order to prevent an attack, we’ll need everything to work almost perfectly.
Godspeed.

No, the nation will blame Obama, and Obama and his lapdogs will try to scapegoat. Not gonna let you do it, especially not even before the fact. Nice try. This is how AQ wants to drive the US agenda and keep the body politic on our heels. To me, here’s the real question. I was intrigued by the $25 Mil she made at Fannie Mae. What on God’s green earth qualifies a career lawyer with a smidge of experience at DOJ to be a VP at Fannie Mae ? It’s incestuous. I guarantee getting the job at Fannie Mae was a half step up from nepotism. That is the kind of crap that needs to stop. Jamie Gorelick had no business working for Fannie Mae in any capacity other than General Counsel. And THEN after being counsel for them for a time, she MIGHT qualify to be a VP.
If you are looking for reasons Fannie and Freddie failed, it’s because of cronyism and people like Gorelick cashing in on their 15 minutes in the governmental sun and getting 5 million dollar jobs they have no clue how to do. Jobs, I might add, that shocking as it may seem, MIGHT be important to the bottom line of said company. |

Bringing in folks from a former Democratic administration definitely puts rather large holes in the change montra. But as a former liberal, I remember thinking along the lines of retread as a Democrat when Pres. Bush back in 2000 along with Dick Cheney, brought back Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld, and Condoleezza Rice. They were all from previous Republican administrations. Colin Powell had even worked in a previous Democrat administration. |
