Whats wrong with Hyundai or Tata Motors or BMW coming in and buying up all those factories and machines at rock-bottom prices?

During the 80’s, the US makers lost half their marketshare. Those factories and machines have been available at rock bottom prices as well as workers, engineers and managers.

No one took them over. No one was able to make a 4th auto company (unless you count Delorean). No one has the magnitude of capital required to launch a auto presence on that scale without the government stepping in with money and protection.

Given the shifting sands of the relationships of nations, do we have anything to be concerned about as regards the total loss of control of manufacturing?

I’m just thinking of the onset of WWII, wherein our abilty and capacity at manufacturing made the difference. Granted, that nationalising such things at need is within the realm of the possible, but irony abounds, ’nationalising’ is a word Obama’s people are trying to avoid using, just now.
