Quote of the Day ...
Posted by: McQ on Sunday, December 14, 2008

AP reports:
Ironically, 2008 is on pace to be a slightly cooler year in a steadily rising temperature trend line. Experts say it's thanks to a La Nina weather variation. While skeptics are already using it as evidence of some kind of cooling trend, it actually illustrates how fast the world is warming.
Wha?

Cool = warm?

How does one take AP seriously?

How does one take AP seriously?
One doesn’t. Or at least I don’t.

Mother Nature, of course, is oblivious to the federal government’s machinations
Yet the whole article is a plea for.......massive federal governmental machinations.

And they wonder why they’re going out of business.

Ironically, 2008 is on pace to be a slightly cooler year in a steadily rising temperature trend...

Ironically: ī-ˈrä-nik(ə-)lē\
(adverb)

1. in an ironic manner
2. it is ironic, curious, or surprising
3. describes a situation that doesn’t match a predetermined outcome
4. describes aberrant information or data to be explained away

Definitions (1) and (2) from Merriam-Webster. Definitions (3) and (4) from al-AP.

Could somebody show us the "steadily rising temperature trend"? I’ve heard a lot of talk about it, but I must say that I’ve never seen one that wasn’t the result of somebody either highly selective or outright falsified data.

I would also suggest to al-AP that, when you start having data points that don’t fall along a trend, then you don’t have a trend anymore and it’s time to revisit your theory.

This is part of the baloney that is the American media, and includes the same horsecrap horsesh!t bullcrap that allowed an empty suit like The Clown™ to get elected as President of the United States without anyone knowing anything about him, or what he stood for or has done in his life.

Listen carefully to the media on this subject. Because "global warming" was a hilarious joke, they moved to "climate change." Now, everything is "climate change." It’s too warm? Chalk it up to climate change. It’s too cold? Chalk it up to climate change. Too much rain? Chalk it up to climate change. Too little rain? Chalk it up to climate change. No snow? Chalk it up to climate change. Too much snow? Chalk it up to climate change.

Someone should walk up to Al Gore and hit him right in the face with a pie. He deserves it, the lying little pr!ck.

I assume you are talking about his genital size here as if you have seen his waistine lately you would know that the world little describes him about as well as global warming describes the weather.

We have to spend trillions of dollars and impose draconian "green" rules on everyone because if we don’t we’re ALL GONNA DIE! Al Gore says so.

IT is too complicated for us normal pawns to understand, so we must leave it to the politicians and the U.N. They have a proven track record of always making the right choices and fixing everything they touch. Something as complicated as the climate should not be a problem for them.

I’ll try to simplify it since I realize you don’t like elitist big words:

Cooler year due to La Nina > Warmest year 15 years ago

Hope this helps.

Cooler year due to La Nina > Warmest year 15 years ago.
Or fewer sun spots or the sun’s magnetic field or a 10 year cooling trend driven by both or ... well you get the point.

They’re known as natural cycles which are not driven by a trace gas which is natural in the atmosphere and which science tells us trails temperature through out history.

Hope that helps.

After reading the AP piece .. I’m simply breathless.

Did Seth Borenstein and contributor Dina Cappiello actually write this or did they just use the copy of Al Gore’s office ?

Warmest year 15 years ago = false. The data has been revised, 1934 is the warmest year on record.

I think you stopped reading the article one paragraph too soon,
The average global temperature in 2008 is likely to wind up slightly under 57.9 degrees Fahrenheit, about a tenth of a degree cooler than last year. When Clinton was inaugurated, 57.9 easily would have been the warmest year on record. Now, that temperature would qualify as the ninth warmest year.
The point of the post seems to be how contradictory the previous paragraph was. If you’d continued reading it would have been clarified.

Psst — See the latest Nasa report on ice lost in recent years? Nasa attributes that to global warming. But yeah, they’re part of this vast left wing global conspiracy, right? *eyes rolling*

At this point the deniers can’t be persuaded. They just have to be defeated.

Dr. Erb, those deniers include thousands of academic experts. This amount of ice lost is not unique in human or geologic history. CO2 from human activity is not contributing in any non-negligible way to warming or this melt; since you referenced it, the NASA scientists that I talk to that work at the Earth Science Office also doubt human activity as the cause of any warming, but rather know it to be due to natural processes. In fact, one of the "deniers" actually served four times as a contributor to, and once, in 2007, as a lead author for the UN reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Global climate change has gone on for 4.5 billion years and will not stop in the event humans cease to exist. The percent of green house gases that are due to human activity is about 0.28%, and this includes H20, CO2, CH4, N20, and miscellaneous gases.

Pssst - where in the NASA report did it attribute the warming to human activity?
