People who express great concern about the rise of a new fascism, while agitating for a bigger and more powerful State, are self-contradictory, and also examples of the psychological concept of "projection." You can’t have National Socialism without socialism. |

McQ, here you are doing your over-the-top defense of those baby-killing military types, when I’ve proven with the holy principles of post-modernism that the military turns at least a third of it’s members into raving lunatics. Can’t you admit just for one minute how depraved they all are?
Crooks and Liars has it exactly right, but I was there first when I talked about how our invasion of Iraq was just like the Nazis. It all fits together, don’t you see? If you could just access your true emotions, and feel as genuinely and completely as we wise leftists do, you would see that the military is vicious and evil and needs to be downsized to a few platoons to guard embassies. I’m not even sure what they would be guarding against, since it’s well known that if we threw our military away, the primary cause of all war would be eliminated and peace would reign throughout the world.
Why, if we did that, I’m sure the Palestinians and the Israelis would come to terms in a week. And it wouldn’t be because the Israelis were overwhelmed and destroyed, so stop saying that! And even if they were, they deserve to suffer the way the poor Palestinians have suffered for fifty years. Jimmy Carter, the wisest leader we’ve ever had and a great man, and I wish I could just sit at his feet for a while and gaze at his majesty, has shown us the true face of the moderate, victimized Palestinians, and the only reason the nasty Israelis treat them that way is because our military supports Israel. Think of it! Our lunatic, neo-Nazi troops are the ultimate cause of the Palestinian suffering, and you, McQ, refuse to even consider doing anything about it. How heartless can you be?
With my godlike powers of political science, I can intuitively assess that our military is destructive, deranged, and just awful. No, I don’t have any direct experience with anything remotely military, why do you ask? But I’ve seen the interviews with the winter soldier guys, and that told me all I needed to know about the depravity of the military. Well, that, plus all those absolutely true stories regaled by that stainless hero John Kerry. He’s a textbook example of what happens when a good and honest person goes through military experience. And when he told the truth about it, fifty of those baby-killing monsters lied about him to smear him and prevent him from taking the place of that odious Bush. It’s all proven beyond a doubt; why, it’s on Wikipedia, which is the greatest, most authoritative resource on the Internet because we wise leftists can directly put our own narrative in the articles there without the tiresome process of achieving consensus on the truth. Heck, all we pragmatic post-modernists know that there are multiple truths anyway, and it’s important that the narrative be established around the one that soothes everyone’s ragged emotions.
So we’re now in the process of re-vitalizing the narrative that the military is composed of deranged far right wingers. And there’s nothing you can do about it, McQ. The talking points have already been issued. You’ll start seeing the effects in the New York Times and CNN any day now. I mean, effects beyond their usual disdain for the military, of course. |

Here’s my problem with "Lance Corporal Burton".
First it’s "Hajis", not "Hachies". I don’t know what a "Hachie" is, but it isn’t what "Lance Corporal Burton" says it is.
Second, if he’s a Lance Corporal, that means he must be a Marine. I’m not sure what kind of designation "2nd Battalion Fox Company Pit 2097" is in the USMC. I do know that "Pit", should probably be "Plt" or platoon.
I also know that your unit designation doesn’t go from the highest to the lowest unit, but the reverse. For instance, you’d say your unit was 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines.
I don’t even know how you’d get to be designated Platoon 2097. There are generally three platoons plus a HQ element per company, so you’d generally be in 1st, 2nd or 3rd Platoon.
The oly place I can think of where you’d be in Plt 2097 would be basic training, where platoons are numbered sequentially.
But, even if it wasn’t, "2097 Platoon, Fox Company, 2nd Battalion" isn’t a unit designation. It’s almost one, but without knowing either the regiment or the Division, it doesn’t designate any unit at all.
So, I have some doubts about the service record of "Lance Corporal Burton". |

As Obama "right-sizes" the US defense establishment, look for politically motivated purges of the officer and senior non-com ranks. The US military may be the only government institution fighting for our freedoms, against enemies both foreign and domestic. |

No one in Iraq says Hadji anymore. They call them Muj (as in Mujaheddin.) Maybe, maybe not. It’s possible that the military has put out official word that the use of "hadji" as a pejorative is a no no, especially with the press. That said I’ve met at least one Iraqi War vet who referred to his 2 tours in Iraq as "acquiring my bachelors and masters in hadjiology." He has since gone back for his doctorate.Amazingly, I trust those "crazy veterans" infinitely more than I trust people like the author McQ lambastes... Most people do. In terms of popular support and approval, the military currently blows away almost every other American institution. I’m guessing that with the new congress and president coming to DC in January, the partisans will not allow that sort of approval disparity to stand. |

In a previous "unpopular" war, there was a politically driven higher headquarter directive stating that it would be a court martial offense for American servicemen to refer to the male indiginous population members as "Gomers".
The response to the directive was predictable. Until the directive was later rescinded, male indiginous population members were referred to as "Remogs" - or "Gomer" spelled backward! |

There are very few things on the internet that actually make me angry. Oh, there’s lots that makes me want to argue... the old, "there’s someone *wrong* on the internet" thing. That’s generally fun.
This makes me upset. Physically so. It doesn’t make me want to argue or reason because there is no way to reason with the unreasonable. It’s in the realm of needing first to determine the color of the sky.
This is prejudice so vile and so ingrained there is nothing to do.
But if anyone would be so kind... please tell me, again, that these people are fringe loonies and no one listens to them, that normal liberals would be appalled to read a comment about Palin’s seed now in the evil military for his "training". I half hoped someone would speak up, but no one in the comments did.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is NOT a "new low for the Left."
The new low came this week when they and their sick & demented ilk cheered some creepo for throwing his shoes at President Bush. And the MSM went along, showing and re-showing the clip almost with glee.
I wonder how they would react if, say, someone threw a shoe at The Clown™, and then watched him duck. I for one cannot stomach Obama, but no one wants to see this happen to the President of the United States (except for maybe Jimmy Carter, that anti-Semite).
If someone has the gall to do it President Clown™, I wonder how the media will show it. Over and over? Will they portray the thrower as some nice guy, or as a wild-eyed lunatic (probably a right-winger who listens to Rush Limbaugh!).
The gall of the Left knows no bounds. Their new lows this week will be superceded by even lower lows - just give them time. |

getting to the topic of the post, bruce is right, it is ludicrous. but as always, he uses a very broad brush ("the left"), as if large numbers of people are up in arms about this. i’d say there those 200 (!) neo-nazis out number anyone from "the left" howling about this non-issue.
and it is a non-issue. maddow is the issue du jour, and it’s a prime example of how flawed bruce’s entire underlying philosophy really is. hence he tries to deflect attention from it. |

Watch for more of this from the left as it decides it is no longer politically necessary to honor those who serve in the military.
I think this is as much of an over reach as the story being responded to. The day the ubiquitous "left" decides that it’s no longer necessary to respect military service is the day they decided it’s no longer necessary to have political power. Believe it or don’t, a person can have enormous respect for the military, serve in the military, and be in favor of policies antithetical to the policies of the last 8 years.
The difference is that when you state your disapproval of how the military is being used, it’s not likely that anyone is going to state that your disapproval amounts to disrepecting those who serve, as was done to people who did not approve of how military force was projected in the recent past. You’re suggesting that Rachel Maddow, Rhodes scholar and D.Phil from Oxford in political science and self professed butch dyke, actually wants to be a "Fox-newsbabe"? Fox Newsbabes are wanna-be Rachel Maddow’s.
I think Rachel Maddow is kind of attractive, but I can’t past the fact that every time I see her, I can’t help but be reminded of Balky from Perfect Strangers.
Well, of course not, don’t be ridi-cool-us.
Whatever happened to Laurie Dhue? She should have her own show on cable, you know, where topless newscasts are allowed. (I’m not saying she’s stupid, but I am saying she is hot)

Guys, none of this is new for the Left. Rudyard Kipling figured it out 80 years ago: Memories 1930
"The eradication of memories of the Great War. -SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT ORGAN
The Socialist Government speaks:
THOUGH all the Dead were all forgot And razed were every tomb, The Worm-the Worm that dieth not Compels Us to our doom. Though all which once was England stands Subservient to Our will, The Dead of whom we washed Our hands, They have observance still.
We laid no finger to Their load. We multiplied Their woes. We used Their dearly-opened road To traffic with Their foes: And yet to Them men turn their eyes, To Them are vows renewed Of Faith, Obedience, Sacrifice, Honour and Fortitude!
Which things must perish. But Our hour Comes not by staves or swords So much as, subtly, through the power Of small corroding words. No need to make the plot more plain By any open thrust; But-see Their memory is slain Long ere Their bones are dust!
Wisely, but yearly, filch some wreath- Lay some proud rite aside- And daily tarnish with Our breath The ends for which They died. Distract, deride, decry, confuse- (Or-if it serves Us-pray!) So presently We break the use And meaning of Their day!
