Heh...
The question of who would want to be appointed to the Senate by Blago under those conditions would seem to have been answered... the Atty General who apparently has been operating with Blago all this time. After all, would not the state Atty general’s name be pretty well known by now in a case of such corruption? First I’ve heard the name, myself. |

On further review, entire comment withdrawn. It’s what I get for hip shooting. Reason I didn’t remember the name was he’s not been AG since 95 or so.
But for those who want a twist of lemon with this drink, check his Wiki litsing: After graduating from law school, Burris became the first African-American National Bank Examiner for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for the U.S. Treasury Department. In that capacity, he traveled throughout the midwest examining banks in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. From 1964 to 1973, he worked at Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Company (now Bank of America), serving as tax accountant, tax consultant, commercial banking officer, and vice-president. He headed a commercial group that covered government guaranteed loans and minority business banking. Given the current financial problems, that’s amusing. THere’s this, as well: He was National Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer for Operation PUSH from January to October 1977 Jesse Jackson ties, anyone? [edit] Current career Burris is serving as Manager/CEO of Burris & Lebed Consulting, LLC. It is a strategic consulting service concentrating in the areas of public relations, governmental representation, political strategies, and corporate strategies. Hmmm. My personal translation says "lobbyist" |

This guy has two rational choices, and one irrational choice.
He can refuse to accept the nomination.
He can accept the nomination and announce that he will not run for the seat in the next election.
His irrational choice is to pretend there is no taint to the seat and accept it as if it were an appointment from a governor in good standing.
His best best is option two, and hope that he is begged to run after all of this blows over, then he can pretend he has no intention of going back on his word, but that he can’t deny the pipples his candidacy. And in the end, let the primary voters make the decision.
A Senate seat is a valuable thing, even if you only have it for a short time.

Eh. Back in the late 70’s, PUSH wasn’t the bad a thing, I would guess. He’s gota pretty impressive list associated to his name...
He was AG from 91-95, under Jim Edgar...
My dad can’t recall anything bad about him, so I guess all we can do here in Illinois is shrug and say "Eh... Could have been worse..." Especially since the guy has only won basically two elections in the state, ever. |

That’s the problem in states like Illinois, New York and New Jersey, you have elect the politicians from those states to office and the pickings are might slim.
This thought must run through the heads of every NJ voter: "hmmm, do I want the guy convicted of embezzling or the guy who got away with it in plain sight?" |

This is why Democrats run states into the ground. This is why Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton destroyed this country, and why after two years people will be sick and tired of hearing about "President Obama."
Don’t think so? Chris Van Hollen, Dem Representative from MD, sent out a secret report (that the media got their hands on) that Dems could lose - ready? - 70 seats in the 2010 election.
Now, I bet he is way off. But, the party in control of the WH always loses seats in the midterms, except for 1998.
If the Dems lost 35-40, say goodbye to Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Even if they lost 25, which is not out of the realm, she will remain as Speaker by a thin margin. Thinner than an Ethiopian on a diet.
Back to Blago: ever wonder what his real name is? So did I. It is Milorad Blagojevich; he had to shorten it to "Rod" and make up a middle name because he didn’t have on.
Why doesn’t someone throw a shoe at him? Or hit him in the kisser with a huge cream pie? Now that would make for great tv. |
