What a Fine Little Mess
Posted by: McQ on Friday, January 02, 2009

The coming spectacle of seating IL Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s choice for the vacated Senate seat of Barack Obama promises to be quite a show.

You have a sitting governor charged with corruption in government, specifically a little pay-to-play scandal concerning the Obama Senate seat refusing to step down as demanded and appointing a replacement anyway.

You have the replacement, former IL AG Roland Burris, determined to take the appointment even after calling Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s actions "appalling".

You have the IL Secretary of State claiming he won't sign the appointment of Burris when it is pretty clear he simply doesn't have the legal authority to do anything about it.

You have former Black Panther and IL Rep Bobby Rush introducing the race card saying it is wrong to "hang and lynch the appointee as you try to castigate the appointer." "Hang" and especially "lynch" are racially loaded words and Rush knows that very well.

You have Burris deciding that if all else fails, race baiting is a fine way to procede saying on NBC's "Today" show :
“It is a fact, there are no African-Americans in the United States Senate,” he said. “Is it racism that is taking place? That’s a question that someone may raise.”
And finally you have my favorite player - Harry Reid. Reid thinks there something in play with this nonsense about the IL Secretary of State not signing the appointment (legal scholars seem to think that doesn't matter one whit) and his plan adds to the spectacle:
Should Burris appear in Washington without that certification, armed police officers stand ready to bar him from the Senate floor, said a Democratic official briefed on Senate leaders' plans.
The real pity?

Here is one heck of a juicy scandal and not a Bush or Rove in sight to blame it on. Nope, this one is all Democrat and - here's a late prediction - one of many, many to come.

Enjoy.

You know, the thought occurred to me the other night, and I don’t know as I said anything about it at that time; I can’t help but wonder what Burris paid Blagojevich.

It could flower, but then again we are dealing here with some gifted cheats. Blagojevich might not have a valuable Senate seat to sell any longer, but I bet he has just a storehouse of goodies to trade his way out of prison with, and I bet that Patrick Fitzgerald is going to see, through a glass darkly, some awfully strange mutations in the criminal justice and judicial landscape as things move forward.

Blagojevich holds one invaluable card in this matter: he’s a psychopath and has no conscience to trouble him.

The IL Dems COULD’VE passed a law taking the option out of Blagos hands....but that would’ve run the slight danger of a Republican getting the seat in a special election.

The way I see it, this one is all on them. I look forward to Blago’s impeachment defense....outght to be a real barn burner. Emphasis on the word burn. I may contribute to his defense fund and write it off as entertainment expenses

You wouldn’t know that from the media. "Illinois Governor Blagojevich" is all they ever say. Never "Democrat Blagojevich," or "Democrat Burris." Nope, if this were a Repblican crooked Governor (George Ryan, Blagojevich’s predecessor, comes to mind), you would hear, "The Republican Governor, under an ethical cloud..." and "Republicans in the Senate are poised to block a nominee for the US Senate named by a Governor from their own party." Larry Craig moved his leg wrong, and Mark Foley made ridiculous perverted phone calls, and we got the media-manufactured "culture of Republican corruption," which is why most people thought that the GOP ran the House and Senate these past two years.
and - here’s a late prediction - one of many, many to come.
Of course - but do not expect what I said above this to change. Now, imagine the Fitzgerald went after The Clown™; after all, he put him and his staff under oath for questioning in regards to this scandal. Fitzgerald is also the prosecutor in the Rezko trial (he got a conviction), and is after a slew of Illinois officials, many with ties to The Clown™. Remember how the liberals said with laughter, "Happy Fitzmas" thinking Fitzgerald would indict Karl Rove? Just think what would happen if Fitzgerald gets indictments - and convictions - against some more cronies linked to the Obama-Emanuel-Daley Machine in Chicago.

Would the liberals enjoy hearing "Happy Fitzmas" thrown back into their faces? I doubt it. I also wonder what will happen when The Clown™ has to change all of the US prosecutors - does he keep Fitzgerald to avoid any sign of impropriety, or fire him and endure criticism a la another Saturday Night Massacre?

The Clown™ has not even been sworn in yet, and already he and his gang have had to testify under oath before a federal prosecutor. If this were George W. Bush, or a Republican President, that’s all we would hear. But because The Messiah can do no wrong, the whole issue has just been swept under the rug.

Yes sir, and you know who the biggest racists are in this? That damned President elect, and that damned Illinois Secretary of State.

I don’t know why those two don’t just wear their sheets all the time...

Translation: anyone who thought electing an African-American President would end hateful charges of racism is all wet. We’re going to club you with charges of racism till your dying day.
