House Republicans Say No To Dem Pork "Stimulus" Bill
Posted by: McQ on Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Well, well, well ...
The measure passed 244 to 188, with 11 Democrats and 177 Republicans voting against it.
That's all the Republicans in the House. Not one voted for the package.

Obviously Obama didn't promise enough to buy them off or they can sense a turkey when they see one. Republicans haven't had solidarity like that since 9/11.

Of course that means nothing if a couple of Republican Senators cross the isle and vote for it. And I'm still betting that will happen. So my statement, "that's not conjecture - that's a promise" stands. My guess is it will only take one (maybe two) and they'll find him or her.

Retired Military - one of our commenters - says he thinks that person(s) will come out of this group:

McCain
Collins
Spectre
Graham
Snowe

I don't think McCain will vote for it. And if McCain doesn't vote for it, neither will Grahan. That leaves Collins, Spectre and Snowe. Anyone else want to add a name or two?

Oh, and don't forget this CBS "breaking news" email headline I received as we head down this road:
The House has approved President Obama's $819 billion economic stimulus bill.
Can't vote present on this one, can he?

As I stated before. My bet is 3 out of the 5 will vote yes.

McQ said: "I don’t think McCain will vote for it. And if McCain doesn’t vote for it, neither will Grahan."

McCain did not vote for Timothy Geithner, but Graham did. I wonder why they made different decisions on this point.

Given that Spectre has already voted against DeMint’s attempt to add a right-to-work amendment to the pay discrimination bill and did nothing of substance to stop Holder’s nomination, I fully expect him to continue his leftward tack and vote for the porkfest.

Congrats Dems......you OWN this one.

And we’ll make you choke on it.

Lightworker too.

I happen to be in Maui right now. The local news reported that the house passed the bill with MOST Republicans voting against. I’ve hated the media for decades and apparently I’ve no reason to stop.

Well, sure he can!
If any bill shall not be returned by the President within ten days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the same shall be a law, in like manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their adjournment prevent its return, in which case it shall not be a law.
"Obama never signed the stimulus. He had serious reservations." Say it with me, if it fails you may hear it 3.5 years from now.

Specter and Collins at least, and if McCain (and/or Graham) doesn’t I’ll be surprised...

Giving Obama a chance, and all that.

I’m shocked that the GOP showed such solidarity. As McQ says, "Obama didn’t promise enough to buy them off or they can sense a turkey when they see one."

O’ course, what we’ll see is lots of stories about how the nasty ol’ Republicans, motivated by sour grapes and RACISM, tried to kill the urgently-needed stimulous package that will put millions of Americans into high-paying "green" jobs and usher in an era of prosperity not known in America since... well... ever. When the "stimulus" fails to really stimulate anything and we slip into outright depression coupled with massive national debt (thanks, Bush), the dems (spit) and their MSM mouthpieces will blame the GOP for not voting to pass the stimulus package.

At any rate, what the dems (spit) clearly mean by "bipartisan" is that enough GOP politicians vote for something so that, when it doesn’t work right, they can claim that it’s the GOP’s fault. Sort of like the Patriot Act and the invasion of Iraq: the dems (spit) voted for them, but when it was politically expedient, they made it clear that it was all Bush’s idea and his fault.

"Bipartisian" means whatever they need it to mean at that moment.

This second, they want bipartisian to mean "Dems have political cover" but the fact is if just 1 RINO Senator votes with them, when time to assign blame comes due, it certainly will be trumpeted as "bipartisian"

Heck, the LAT may even lie again about how much GOP support was needed.

Hey, anyone seen TomD?
I was hoping he could explain how this won’t matter because the polls say Obama is very popular.
