Nothing to make a fuss about
Posted by: McQ on Wednesday, September 14, 2005

Meanwhile in cosmopolitan and civilized China, we learn that cosmetics marketed in the West are made from skin harvested from executed prisoners:

Show/Hide

Of course when this was made public, the agent for the company immediately denied it. But it was too late. The cat, so to speak, was out of the bag:

Show/Hide

Well imagine that. There's an old story about shipping Gerber baby food into China and how they were horrified because they thought the picture of a baby on the label signified the jar was filled with, well, baby parts.

So, fair warning. If you get a "skin cream" with "Made in China" on it, it may actually be a skin cream.

Reminds me of the line from Adam’s Family when the Girl Scout was selling Girl Scout Cookies. "Are they made from real Girl Scouts?"

In all of the FEMA announcements there has never been one word about avoiding skin creams from China. This despite the known hazards from the intense sunlight glaring off of the water that surrounds NOLA. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that skin cream use will take place there in the event of an emergency.
Barbara Bush and her ilk can afford skin creams from France, which presumably do not contain human skin. The poor, black people huddled in the Astrodome have no one from the federal government assigned to monitor the types of skin creams being passed out – and there is nothing in the Master plan about skin cream hazards at all. Several evacuees said that they had been told nothing about skin cream, but local officials keeping them from leaving the Superdome would have prevented them from purchasing any skin cream.
Aaron Broussard said that the trucks turned away from his parish very likely contained skin cream from China, since Wal-Mart is known to feature Chinese manufactured goods. He said that FEMA turned the trucks away with no mention at all of skin cream, despite the parched visages of those waiting in vain for the trucks. “FEMA’s incompetence in having no screening procedures to prevent Chinese skin cream on those trucks is inexcusable,” he said.
A CNN story observes that it is very unlikely that George Bush had ever even thought about the Chinese skin cream hazard, much less taken any steps to assure that victims of Katrina are protected. When several members of his cabinet were asked about the risk from Chinese skin creams, the interviewer was met with blank stares.
Senator Kennedey’s office issued a statement that decried the lack of action by the administration on this issue and labeled the Skingate issue "...just another example of the failure of the Bush administration to be sensitive to the needs of the poor and disadvantaged."
Howeard Dean told an audience at a fundraiser: "Republicans use skin cream, but protecting the poor and the disadvantaged from Chinese skin cream has never crossed their minds."

There is no more skin in the skin cream, than girl guides in the biscuit.

Choose is between Chinese skin cream tested as safe on human skin or Western skin cream tested on bunny rabbits and rats.

You say that Chinese companies experiment on human beings? Some unkind folks say the mainland Chinese treat people like animals, and evekdently Mr. closp agrees.

My comment on skin cream was a stream-of-consciousness comment ripped off and posted. The premise was not strong enough to justify any time more than that. However, after giving it some thought, I realize that I have, simply from being bombarded with it, memorized the DNC attack template. I just laid it out, point to point and used skin cream instead of MREs or something relevant.
The humor was supposed to come from taking something that could not possibly have ANYTHING to do with Katrina or those involved and giving it the DNC outrage treatment. As I read the result, I saw that all that I needed to have a story that I could run in the MSM as a credible complaint (using recent MSM standards) was a sound bite from an on-the-scene anchor interviewing a small black girl with a skin condition. If she got skin cream it was not properly inspected; if she didn’t get it, that was due to the personal negligence of George W. Bush.
The race card play by Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton is missing, but that is optional and need not be included. Also, it is very hard to do parody on race card things, what with most of them being self-parodies.
The MSM has refined the outrage technique to the point that absolutely anything can form the basis for a printable criticism of Bush. Even Chinese skin cream.

Read the story again. The products were not tested on human skin. They’re made from executed prisonners. Soilent Green... Mmm... Yummy crackers...

Absolutely correct. Isn’t is amazing that it really takes no thought at all to create a fuss about something. Like the cliched chinese menu, pick one from column A, and 2 from column B. Fill in the blanks. No wonder the "war rooms" can respond so quickly; they have forms where you just insert words. You did an excellent job. Enjoyed it a lot. Perhaps someone can start a contest, like the Bulwer-Lytton(?) worst opening sentence competition, for boiler-plate political attacks.

“…it really takes no thought at all…”
Yes, I know what you mean. Once the template is proven it takes no thought. Building and perfecting such templates takes a great deal of thought. Thank you for commenting and validating my work - Play.

Well now, gosh, fellow bubs, this is all very troubling and confusing. What we really need, in this, our hour of turmoil, is the enlightened guidance of Tong Lu, (or whatever he called himself). I’m sure he could explain this correctly, and the ChiComGov would be shown in the correct light.
