If you or I had done this, we’d be looking through the razor wire at the lovely terrain outside of Marion, Illinois. How can you say that? I’m sure there was an innocent explanation. He was, uh, probably dazzled by the bright sunlight, and he needed to put the documents down so he could shield his eyes, yeah, that’s the ticket, and he wanted them to be in a safe place, so he hid them under that trailer, yeah, that’s it.
So he didn’t do anything wrong. If you say he did, you must be a Clinton hater.

It’s really ironic to me how the deranged left kept on talking about how Dick Cheney, et al, needed to be "frog-marched" and placed in an "orange jumpsuit" (to use two of their favorite phrases), when there was at best only a tenuous suggestion that a crime was even committed. But Hillary can lose records (clear contempt of court), Bill can commit perjury, and Sandy can stuff his trousers full of classified documents, but somehow nobody ever pays for those crimes by going to jail. Heck, they don’t even acknowledge that they got caught. Sandy copped a plea and hid his worst crimes, and Bill and Hillary just kept telling us to move on.
I don’t necessarily think Bill Clinton deserved to go to jail. And, as I’ve explained to numerous leftists over the year, I can actually tell you the things I think he did well during his adminstration. But having the media grant him political sainthood after his behavior is as much proof of their bias as anything they’ve ever done.
And Hillary’s shenanigans with the billing records and her amazing cattle futures track record ought to be clear issues if she runs for president. But you can bet they won’t be if it’s up to the NYT, Washington Post, CBS/ABC/NBC/CNN, etc. |

First, this puts paid to the silly idea that this was an "accident," where Berger didn’t even realize he’d taken these documents out of the building.
Second, and more worrisome, this sounds like somebody filling a "dead-drop." Which is spy-speak for passing documents to other people (usually unfriendly foreign intelligence agencies).
Which goes to Keith’s point: Why did he do it? Who else was involved? What was on those documents?
And I’d like to add: Why the lenient treatment? Is it simply the power of privilege?
One thing’s for certain: This person has no business ever having access to classified documents again. Come 2009, one wonders how well the media and various politicos will remember Berger’s actions if/when he’s nominated for a sensitive position. |

I was pretty outraged over the lack of scrutiny into Berger’s actions. So I did a little, illustrated thought experiment: What if Condi Rice had been caught stealing 9/11 documents prior to her testimony?
