I see Obama as a strong running mate to one of the other candidates. I suspect that he has his eye on 2012 or 2016, not 2008. This is just meant to get him some national recognition as a major player and, if his running mate’s campaign is successful, a foot in the door as VP. |

I tend to agree Omar, but given the celebrity worship of our culture, I wouldn’t discount him making a strong showing in ’08 or even taking the nomination. Personally I see him (as well as Edwards) as the "not ready for prime time" players in terms of experience or political depth. But unfortunately, for many voters, the presidential contest is little more than a "beauty contest" and those who they "like" have a better chance than those who might do the best job based on past performance.
Imagine Abe Lincoln running in today’s media driven elections. |

Obama will run, likely win the nomination, and put the GOP back in office for ’08. The voters will demand this course of action cause, as you said, they "like" him. |

It is good that this wasn’t a political speech, or the church may be in danger of losing its tax exemption. |

Listen, the cat’s good and all, but he ain’t gonna be our nation’s next president...no way shape or form. Now Gore/Obama 2008—that’s a different story... www.minor-ripper.blogspot.com |

Clinton isn’t talking about 9/11 or the recent gassing of new York and New Jersey. Like 9/11 they are saying its safe but running no tests.
Obama is gay? |

If Obama beats Hilary, a distinct possibility, he would be hard to beat in the General Election. UNLESS, he fails to articulate a real message besides "Lets just all get along". But I suspect he will come out with a few concrete proposals in the primaries so that he can differentiate himself from Hilary.
Don’t underestimate his appeal. |

Imagine Abe Lincoln running in today’s media driven elections. I know. He had the looks for radio. But then think about William Howard Taft (our heaviest President) or James Madison (our shortest). They would be raked over the coals, too [remember the flack Clinton took for all the McDonald’s visits?). Still, given his wit, I suspect the 16th President would provide some excellent sound bites.
Given that much of the electorate does think of the Presidential elections as essentially "beauty contests," I guess the following would be ruled out:
Dennis Kucinich and Ross Perot (too short)
Al Sharpton (too fat)
John Kerry (the looks for radio)
Rudy Giuliani (too much of the bulldog or retired boxer about him, plus bald)
Our top candidates then appear to be:
John Edwards (creepy, but definitely a pretty boy)
Barrack Obama (hey, Oprah loves him)
Arnold Schwarzenegger (just assume the natual born citizen thing doesn’t apply)
Hmmm... since Arnold isn’t legally qualified, it appears that Republicans lack a pretty-boy candidate for the next election. Maybe the Queer Eye guys can fix up Mitt Romney? ;) |
