Posted by: Jon Henke on Friday, June 15, 2007 As far as I can tell, Glenn Greenwald spends almost 2000 words in this post to pretty much say "I know you are, but what am I!" Greenwald obviously doesn't have a problem with trading in personal attacks and questions about the masculinity of his opponents. For example, he criticizes Rush Limbaugh for suggesting that "Democrats and liberals lack masculinity"...but just moments later, he pulls the same card, writing that his targets "plainly lack those [masculine] qualities on every level." He calls Rush Limbaugh "effete and bloated", and somehow divines that other pundits "plainly perceive themselves (understandably) to be lacking the traditional masculine virtues". Greenwald seems quite comfortable being part of the problem. He's seen the gutter and found it quite useful. This is not, he hurries to say, "about psychoanalyzing anyone" — though that is exactly what he just did. No, he lies, these accusations have actually come "explicitly from their own mouths". (you'll be unsurprised to learn that he's making that up. His pejoratives are based entirely on his own psychoanalysis of his opponents motivations and personal traits) I don't disagree with some of his criticisms of policies and the over-attention given to personality . . . but Greenwald seems quite comfortable being part of the problem.
