Three suspected Islamic terrorists from an al-Qaida-influenced group nursing "profound hatred of U.S. citizens" were arrested on suspicious of plotting imminent, massive bomb attacks on U.S. facilities in Germany, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Here's the most interesting part:

The three suspects — two Germans, ages 22 and 28, and a 29-year-old Turk — first came to the attention of authorities because they had been caught observing a U.S. military facility in Hanau, near Frankfurt, at the end of 2006, officials said.

All three had undergone training at camps in Pakistan run by the Islamic Jihad Union, and had formed a German cell of the group, which officials said was influenced by al-Qaida.

Two homegrown types.

They were planning an attack on Ramstein Air Base. I don't know if you've ever been there, but it is indeed a "massive" base (used by both the US and NATO).

Yesterday in Copenhagen:

Danish police have arrested two people with suspected links to al-Qaeda on suspicion of planning a bomb attack.

Officials gave no details about the alleged plot, but said the two had already acquired explosive material.

The most interesting aspect of that particular event:

The suspects had been under surveillance for some time and Danish investigators had liaised with "several foreign co-operation partners" before making the arrests, police said.

The underlined is, I'd guess, the primary reason that Western security forces are having the type success in various countries thwarting plots like the two above. One of the disadvantages from a "are we making progress" point of view is the GWoT takes place largely in the shadows and requires tremendous cooperation among allies with intense "liasing" in which substantial amounts of intelligence is shared and put to use. It is only when it has success such as it has in the past two days that you get an inkling of the size and depth of the mostly invisible struggle for our security going on worldwide.

I see the AP is spinning away:

Right. Or perhaps jihadists simply hate Western freedom wherever it exists. They surely haven’t exercised restraint in many other places.

I question the timing....Iraq War debate critical, 9/11 just ahead and then, oh how conveniently...two terror cells are "discovered." Yeah right, I’m waiting for UBL to be de-frosted from his cryotank in Oct. 2008 to attempt to resurrect some moribund Republican’s campaign against the Forces of Good.

And if we did, what would we do in Pakistan. Last time I looked, they were an ally and last thing I heard was they didn’t take too kindly to foreign troops mucking around in their territory.

Why is it those on the left are always hot to fight the war we’re not fighting and against the one we are fighting?
