What’s even better was his awarding Michelle Malkin with a "Worst Person in the World" award, citing Gerado. A guy who said he’s spit on Michelle if givenm the chance.
What class acts they are.“Michelle Malkin is the most vile, hateful commentator I’ve ever met in my life,” he says. “She actually believes that neighbors should start snitching out neighbors, and we should be deporting people.
“It’s good she’s in D.C. and I’m in New York,” Rivera sneers. “I’d spit on her if I saw her.” He must not own a mirror... |

Keith Olbermann is the poster child for "empty suits" the world over. It is rare that I find someone who completely lacks any redeeming qualities, social or otherwise, and Olbermann is a prime example of such a person. |

Keith actually gets it right, amidst his confusion:Even if it means a Democratic Congress [IDIOCY REDACTED]standing up and denying you another penny for Iraq Sorry Keith baby, but the power to end the war has always been with the Dems. Why you’re not railing against Reid and Pelosi is beyond me.

Wait - do you mean that Olbermann’s comedy show is still on?
I thought that thing was canceled months ago. I had no idea that any network would keep such utter crap on their schedule.
MSNBC is in worst shape than even I thought. |

Saw the video yesterday. It’s sad, actually, how he directly addresses the President, how he talks like he’s about to personally end the war. All the practiced outrage betrays that he’s nothing more than an over-actor. This is what passes for "hard-hitting" and "emotional" in some places:And you are playing at it! Playing! One would think that a lifetime of Hollywood would desensitize people, give them a healthy dose of cynicism when watching someone get hot under the collar while staring into the camera and delivering cliché-stuffed lines from the TelePrompter. But apparently, all bets are off when Bush is in the cross-hairs.
You can see right through him, even if you start with a suspension of disbelief. So I guess what’s sadder is that so many people ate it up, saying he "tells it like it is." |

You know what’s even worse? The fact that his entire rant is predicated on his poor grasp of the use of the word "playing". He’s ranting about a semantic distinction. |

That’s exactly what I got out of it when I saw it last night. I immediately thought that he was using a really silly and weak device to make his points, some of which I even sympathize or agree with.
On balance, I think Olbermann generally does a pretty good job "speaking truth to power," in the ideal sense, meaning it’s less important that it’s really the truth as that he can say it right there staring you in the eye and speaking at the president so harshly in the 2nd person.
No matter what you think of the content, in view of history, it’s pretty cool.

No matter what you think of the content, in view of history, it’s pretty cool What is cool is not that a frothing idiot is given a television platform to rant against the administration, but that - unlike most countries in the world in history- he hasn’t been hauled off to a small dank cell and made to suffer.

No matter what you think of the content, in view of history, it’s pretty cool. The ironic thing is that I’d actually agree with him most of the time...if he wasn’t so histrionic about it.
He’s a bit like a lot of partisans and demagogues. It’s not enough to disagree - it’s a battle of Good VS Evil. He can’t simply say "Bush is wrong about..." - he has to make it a titanic battle for the ages.
The other problem is that I don’t really buy that he’s voicing principled objections. I’d give my left foot to have a media as skeptical of all politicians as people like Olbermann and Krugman are of Bush...but they’ll never turn a similarly skeptical eye towards their own team. So we end up with partisans doing all of the skeptical work necessary to keep the other side in check, while the media just follows whatever the dominant narrative is at the moment. |

There are a number of commenters that get much lower ratings by being more even keeled, like Matthews and Abrams, and some them get higher ratings by screeching louder, like O’Reilly and Hannity.I’d give my left foot to have a media as skeptical of all politicians as people like Olbermann and Krugman are of Bush... People play to their audiences and they play off of their owb biases.
Hannity says insane things every day, but we don’t seem his words dissected here.
We have the media we want, where the most popular and highest paid figures are not journalists who investigate and uncover truth, but those who pontificate and appeal to segments of the population who want to hear their own views amplified.
We watch this stuff more than we watch serious investigative analysis. So we pay for pontification and refuse to pay for investigation. We get what we pay for. Hannity’s New TV Show Bestows A Weekly "Enemy Of The State" Award By Eric Kleefeld Great Moments In Fox News Dept. Forget Keith Olbermann’s "Worst Person In The World" contest — it’s now been completely upstaged by a new Sunday contest on Fox: Sean Hannity’s "Enemy of the State" award. Last night, Hannity’s new Sunday night program aired for the first time, and from here on he’ll award his "Enemy of the State" prize — a term originating with ancient Roman dictators placing bounties on rivals — on whatever red-state abortionist, anti-war activist, or run-of-the-mill Democrat who has attracted Hannity’s ire that week. Olbermann is over the top, but he is positivley thoughtful in comparison to some of his competition.

Olberman is a douche. Period.
Since when is the foundation for a career providing patriotic dissent formed as a Sportscenter anchor. I mean really, are you serious ?
His politics and viewpoints were so nutty that the best he could get was a sports "journalist" job ?
Excuse me if I don’t for a second give a damn what that blowhard buffoon has to say - about ANYTHING. |

About the same time high school graduate Sean Hannity started his career by calling into talk radio shows.
What someone does during or prior to developing an interest in policy and politics has absolutely no bearing on whether they have a "foundation" for such development.
This post attacked the argument of Olbermann with clarity and persuasive logic.
The comments that followed primarily attacked Olbermann, neither logical nor persuasive. Keith Olbermann is the poster child for "empty suits" the world over. It is rare that I find someone who completely lacks any redeeming qualities, social or otherwise, and Olbermann is a prime example of such a person. He talks like a man with a paper a**h**e. What is cool is not that a frothing idiot is given a television platform I question his patriotism, and I question his sanity. Olberman is a douche. Period. Olbermann makes well reasoned thoughtful arguments regularly, but this one was ill considered. That’s all.
One (or a few) unsound argument does not make everything Olbermann utters invalid.
If that is how you function, you would have to consider every argument of the administration invalid since the argument of sweets of flowers was made.

One (or a few) unsound argument does not make everything Olbermann utters invalid. That’s your opinion and not one shared by many posting here. So? Olbermann is still an empty frigging suit.If that is how you function, you would have to consider every argument of the administration invalid since the argument of sweets of flowers was made. Or your own comments since yours don’t smell so sweet, either. |
