Al-Qaida said Monday that it will release a new video of Osama bin Laden presenting the last testament of one of the Sept. 11 suicide hijackers, marking the sixth anniversary of the attacks.
The announcement from the terror group’s media arm came only days after bin Laden appeared in his first video in three years, giving an address to the American people, lecturing them to abandon capitalism and democracy and convert to Islam.
The announcement came in a banner advertisement posted on an Islamic militant Web site where al-Qaida often releases messages and was signed by Al-Sahab, the media arm of bin Laden’s al-Qaida terror network.
“Coming soon, God willing, the testament of the attacks on New York and Washington, Abu Musab Waleed al-Shehri, presented by Sheik Osama bin Laden, God preserve him,” the banner read. It showed an image of bin Laden wearing the same black beard and clothes as in the most recent video.

Since we already have a similar al Qaeda video in which Mohammed Atta and others speak, I guess we already know how the truthers are going to respond: it’s all a CIA plot, man.

I wonder what effect, if any, this will have on the week of testimony and reporting on Iraq.
On the one hand this is mostly old news. But the fact that OBL is still alive obviously rankles a number of people out there as demonstrated by our comment section discussions about the first tape. I've come to believe that OBL has more of a symbolic position than that of someone running the day-to-day operations of al Qaeda. I believe, at this point, that has passed to Zawahiri.
That's not to say that OBL isn't still a powerful figure among the warped but faithful (to his version of Islam). But my guess is that's now his position within the movement. If true, that would still make him someone we want to take out, but in terms of their operational capability, it would make him much less of a priority than Zawahiri (not that we're any closer to getting Zawahir than we are OBL).
The political reactions here are going to be interesting to follow on this. I imagine the spin will be immediate from both sides of the political isle. Which side will be the most effective remains to be seen.

If OBL had forseen the degree to which the western world would dispute the historical claim that 19 arab hijackers flew planes into the WTC, perhaps he would have denied involvement, claimed he was set up by the CIA, and instead palyed up this GreenPeace, Noam Chomsky rhetoric to its fullest. Maybe there is still time. 10-15 years from now, I expect to see white college students throughout Europe and some even in America wearing OBL T-Shirts a la Che Gueverra, as a champion for social justice and fighting "imperialism".
If AQ was a parliamentary democracy, OBL would be the head of state while Zawahiri would be the prime minister.
I think OBL is happy that some people deny 9/11 or blame the jews or the US, while still having his base believe that AQ did it and proving they are an effective organization to support.
