First my wife’s brothers would beat me to within an inch of my life. Then she would destroy me financially. What is it with these political wives? Have they been brainwashed by power? |

Of course Silda wants her husband to remain governor. Otherwise he’ll be at home all the time. One would think it normal that at this time the less Silda sees of Eliot the better. |

It’s been suggested that he’s trying to use a resignation as a way to get the feds to DROP ALL CHARGES!
Please. This is the man who threatened AIG with a major charge unless the CEO stepped down.
I hope the fed’s response was "Hell no. We’ll convict your ass, and then WATCH you get removed." |

So much for my feelings of sympathy for Ms. Spitzer: You didn’t think Hillary Clinton was singular in her power lust, did you?
Clearly, her husband remaining in power, (and thereby the benefits attached to her being married to the person in power) is of greater import to her than the fact that she’s married to someone who spends huge amounts of money on rentals, and has for years. If that’s not Clintonesque, I don’t know what is.It’s been suggested that he’s trying to use a resignation as a way to get the feds to DROP ALL CHARGES!
Please. This is the man who threatened AIG with a major charge unless the CEO stepped down. Quite. As I said at my place this morning:Let me be clear. Spitzer should resign. Today. Now, in fact.
However, He should not be offered any kind of reduced prosecution for doing so. He should be sent up for the max. After all, isn’t that what Spitzer the hero would have insisted on? Or are these values… these law and order values that supposedly made him such a hero among some, not to be applied to a Democrat?

"This is a guy facing 10 to 18 months on a federal indictment for money laundering. How in the world can he govern under that cloud?"
Two Words - Bill Clinton. I mean this is about sex after all.
Also I will believe Spitzer will resign the second he steps out of office. Remember I will resign, no I have had 2nd thoughts, two step.

She might have said he should keep the job, however...A source close to the governor said Mr. Spitzer and his wife of 20 years, Silda Wall, have spent the day in separate rooms in their apartment. They have emerged from their locations to speak jointly with Mr. Spitzer’s lawyers.
“She doesn’t want to look at him, and he doesn’t want to bear the look that she gives when she does look at him,” the source said. And Retired, apparently in about 24 minutes (11:30am today) the announcement will be made. Monday he leaves office, taking even that long at the request of the current Lt Gov. (soon to be without the Lt), to try and make this as smooth as possible.
Aside from Nixon, I’m not aware of any high-level exec officer (state or even local) to ever have a story break one day X, and then be out of office on day X+7. |

"Yet his wife is urging him to stay on"
Perhaps she enjoys the prospect of seeing him "twist slowly, slowly in the wind". |

"It’s been suggested that he’s trying to use a resignation as a way to get the feds to DROP ALL CHARGES!" Federal prosecutors are now denying that there is any sort of arrangement with this crumb.
He really might go all the way down. |
