U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday condemned as "offensively anti-Islamic" a Dutch lawmaker's film that accuses the Koran of inciting violence.

Ban acknowledged efforts by the government of the Netherlands to stop the broadcast of the film, which was launched by Islam critic Geert Wilders over the Internet, and appealed for calm to those "understandably offended by it."

"There is no justification for hate speech or incitement to violence," Ban said in a statement. "The right of free expression is not at stake here."

Anyone else remember such condemnations from the UN Secretary-General concerning anti-semitic or anti-Christian films, articles or demonstrations routinely held in the Middle East? If you're unfamiliar with them, a very short trip through MEMRI's website will help you find them very quickly.

In fact, to disagree completely with Secretary-General Ban, the right of free expression is at stake. And I'd love his comments on this as well.

Says Ban:

"Freedom must always be accompanied by social responsibility," Ban said.

Agreed. But it seems to me that should be focused on those who plan to riot, burn and kill because of a movie with which they disagree.

That the UN is condemning it sight unseen makes it clear that freedom of expression is clearly in question.

Christians generally don’t behead and blow up building in temper tantrums over this sort of stuff.

But they should.

They’d get the Islamic-style preferential treatment right quickly, wouldn’t they?

You guys just haven’t gotten the memo yet: Islam is all about peace. The real threat is American Christians.

After all, American Christians threaten a woman’s right to choose, they want to pray in schools, and Bush is a Christian. QED.

That is the problem isn’t it. No one except the US seems to understand the mere idea of freedom of expression or freedom of thought. Unfortunately even here expression is under fire thanks to CFR and thought by so called "hate crimes" legislation. Please notice all presidential candidates support one, the other or both. Given 10 years we as a people will agree with the General Secretary.

Ahaa...but you forget, is it not "social responsibility" to prevent buildings from being burned down and people being assassinated? And since the UN, as well as the western left have no expectations for muslims to act with the civility becoming of human beings, the white people and the jews must be held morally responsible for what the arabs, pakistanis and persians do.
