Two things. First, qalifying conditions or not, most of the US doesn’t want troops in Iraq for 100 years, even if they’re hypothetically not getting killed there. So all this nuance doesn’t actually help McCain.
Second, McCain’s focus on how long we’d want to stay in Iraq if we had the Iraqis on the front lines and US troops weren’t dying is a pointless fantasy question. That’s not what’s happening in Iraq. How does he plan to get to those "no americans’ dying" qualifying conditions? Those conditions are pie in the sky. Back in reality land one or two Americans will be killed per day in Iraq for the foreseeable future. And guess what, McCain still wants to stay for 100 years.
Anything that helps Americans remember that McCain = more war in Iraq, and Obama = less war in Iraq, only helps Obama. So, unless you’re trying to claim those equations are wrong, bring it on. |
