Anyone know Che’s preferred method of execution (including pre-teen kids)? A 9-millimeter to the back of the head? Just guessing. |

A 9-millimeter to the back of the head? Just guessing. Only if he was feeling benevolent that day. |

It’s an example of the Stockholm Syndrome pure and simple.
Either that or the Left loves murders .. take your pick. |

If you have to idolize a non-American revolutionary, why don’t they pick someone who actually fought to free people Bernardo O’Higgins or Thomas Cochrane? |

In response to your cavils regarding the successful freedom fighter, Che, allow me to refer you to the architect of Iraq, one Mr. Donald Rumsfeld, who tells us that "Freedom’s untidy." |

In response to your cavils regarding the successful freedom fighter, Che ... Che had no interest if freedom and certainly no interest in justice (which, of course, goes a long way in explaining why you feel compelled to defend him).
Notes on your hero:Dismissing the objections of a colleague who understood the importance of trials and proof:Go ahead and try them tomorrow morning — but execute them NOW! From his Motorcycle Diaries, which acolyte Robert Redford managed to edit into a cinematic hagiography: Crazy with fury I will stain my rifle red while slaughtering any enemy that falls in my hands! My nostrils dilate while savoring the acrid odor of gunpowder and blood. With the deaths of my enemies I prepare my being for the sacred fight and join the triumphant proletariat with a bestial howl! Instructing his Revolutionary Tribunals: We don’t need proof to execute a man. We only need proof that it’s necessary to execute him. A revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate. From a letter to his father:I’d like to confess, papa, at that moment I discovered that I really like killing. Summing up soci@lism, after describing how he shot some poor helpless guy in the head at point-blank range: He went into convulsions for a while and was finally still. Now his belongings were mine. To a 14-year-old boy, just before he personally blew the kid’s brains out for trying to defend his father, who was also executed:I said: KNEEL DOWN! (The kid wouldn’t kneel and had to be murdered standing up.) |

We don’t need proof Isn’t that what’s written above the gate at Gitmo?
And "I said: KNEEL DOWN!" is the motto at Bagram, isn’t it? |

So all of that’s OK with you? Is that your point, Retief? |

Nope. I have different standards for the US government in 2008 than I do for a Cuban revolutionary circa 1958. But that’s not actually my point. My point is that all the thugery you mention is bad, but similar things and much worse are routinely forgiven those who are putatively on "our" side. Thus such compalints, made as they are only about those who’ve already be convicted as enemies, are nugatory as reasons to despise Nuestro Comandante. |

Nope. I have different standards for the US government in 2008 ...
Well first of all, this isn’t about the US government, is it?... than I do for a Cuban revolutionary circa 1958. Yeah, I forgot ... murder wasn’t murder when he was doing it, was it Retief?
And drumming up a tu quoque, no matter how tortured still doesn’t answer the question in the title, does it?
But it does point to the usual deflection attempt for which you’ve become so well known. |

You already know the answer to the question in the title. You just don’t like it. Che successfully overthrew an evil tyrant and then died before he could get bogged down in a 50 year tyrany of his own. Thus the glory of fighting oppression adheres to him while the messiness of Cuba’s history since does not. Which makes him cool in a way that anti-revolutionaries never can be. |
