The top two make a very strong case that pandering to voters with promises of expanded government isn't what they want to hear or see. And look at the last one. There's your majority. Conservative Republicans, 47% of the independents and enough "blue dogs" to put Republicans over the top. What is the GOP doing instead? Its usual job of sounding like Democrat-lite. If the GOP wants to energize its voters, it needs to start talking about less government, less intrusion and less spending again - but this time, the party has to mean it. And that means a actual executable plan to be implemented within the first 100 days if elected. An updated "Contract with America" which backs government intrusion down instead of continuing to expand it as it has in the last 8 years. The winning majority awaits such action (not talk, action). |
