Paul Bedard has a handy chart which lays out who is being considered for what in the upcoming Obama administration. Note when you click on the chart and expand it (pdf) the first name in the upper left - yes, Al Gore, "climate czar".
No real surprises, except perhaps seeing Colin Powell's name mentioned under Education Secretary after all his protesting that he wasn't seeking a position in an Obama administration.
As for the critical economic end of things, Jonathan Weil gives us the low-down (and it is a low-down) on the group of economic advisers surrounding Obama at the moment. He cuts Warren Buffet a little slack, but frankly I've considered Buffet more of an savant with the market than some sort of an "economic genius". Check out how many of the advisers have been a part of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae or left their previous position under a cloud.
If you haven't already figured it out, those who are "managing" the bailout and the present economic situation haven't a clue. Not one. And those on the Obama council aren't any better. At this point doing nothing is probably the best advice that can be given. However, that is counter to everything those steeped in government know. They are convinced that government can "fix" anything. That belief usually leads to the law of unintended consequences and from there it is a short hop to disaster.
The only variable between management by the present crew and the oncoming crew may be the speed with which we reach that final destination.
