The world doesn’t need a hero, it needs a protector. America is the Dark Knight. |

When all the world hate Obama, like they did George Bush, will it be apparent that the entire world is filled with racists ? ... or is it something else ? |

How the "world" feels about the U.S. is a very carefully orchestrated thing.
What the world-wide Left knows how to do, and do very well, remarkably well, is to stir a mimetic contagion where the U.S. is the object of ire.
Conservatives, and libertarians, are absolutely flat-footed when the Left goes on this particular mimetic warpath, and simply don’t get it, can’t deal with it when they do get it, and seem not to even know, most of the time, that it’s even happening.
At this blog there’s been Erb always bringing the latest turn of the contagion around wanting to infect readers or just rub it in everyone’s face. But he’s just a bagman caught up in it himself.
The secret to it is that the Left just starts one lie after another, makes those lies the conventional wisdom, and spins the whole anti-American worldview out of it. This is initially pumped through a world-wide network of small radical parties that eventually succeed in leeching it up into the mainstream.
I’ve mentioned here the Workers World Party, a small Stalinist party with ties to North Korea and Cuba, which through its front group A.N.S.W.E.R. became the earliest sponsor of the big antiwar demos in D.C.
That odd little party is hooked into a world network of similar parties, who all seem to pretty much hold the same view, which is that the U.S. is responsible for multiform evils in the world, is always wrong, and is the great oppressor of everyone everywhere. So, it’s no surprise that if you are poor in some slum in virtually any part of the world you are likely to know that it’s the U.S. that is the cause of your poverty and suffering.
Of course, it’s the educated elites who are always in the vanguard, and the contagion sweeps through them nearly at the speed of light. A considerable part of the "world" that detests America is Europe, which has the paranoid certainty of inbred hill people when it comes to the "evil" of the Americans. |

James D,
A very appropos observation. I have to say that I wondered while I was watching that movie if the writer, director, and producers are closet Republicans, ’cuz Batman and The Joker seem to be perfect metaphors for the United States and terrorists. Like Batman, we sometimes appear to be lawless (when we don’t do exactly what everybody else wants). Yet, they rely on us to keep the peace even if they can’t admit it. |

TomD,
We’ve got their oil and goods. They’ve got pieces of paper. We just sneezed, and oil is closing in on 25% of its price a few short months ago. Who owns whom?

With a 14-digit external debt, it doesn’t matter what you think of them, they OWN yer azz. As Mark points out, they don’t own anything but paper. They are the one’s depending on the full faith and credit of the U.S. What they own even more than the paper is a fervent hope that the U.S. continues to succeed, because that is what they invested in. |

As it turns out, neither do we. Checked your stock portfolio lately? Got you there, Tim. I don’t have a stock portfolio.
But with the prices for stocks so far off their peaks, it’s probably a good time to start one.
Other than that, capitalism works on risk, including the stock portfolio. And there’s a reason why the old adage does not run "buy high, sell low." |
